Our bodies have been created with amazing capabilities that can harness creativity in all of its forms. Through closer honing in on our senses such as sight, smell and sound we can capture more concentrated emotions and thoughts.
01. Capturing inspired on-the-go musings: Some of our most luminous thoughts come to mind when out & about rather than when we would perhaps be more prepared for them (ie. In front of our laptop mulling over our next blog post). It is important to ensure you have some way to capture those wondrous thoughts! For those of us who don't haul around carry all style hand bags it can sometimes prove tough ensuring we have our note book on us at all times, why not then pop some mini post it notes in your purse to jot down notes when they come to mind. Also handy for recording your inspired on-the-go musings is an audio recorder, check your digital camera, voice recording is featured on many newer model cameras.
02. Photograph style inspiration: in the midst of difficult economic times, even high street chain store prices can sometimes seem a little out of reach after having paid rent, bills, groceries and transport. Do you often find yourself toying with a piece or accessory while mentally taking notes on how you could divvy up a similar item DIY style, for a fraction of the stores retail price? Next time you find inspiration in those lace leggings, retro floral wrap dress or sparkly hair clips; become a DIY research sleuth - grab the items and go play dress ups in the store change rooms; turn off the flash and take some quick snaps so that you can look to them when working your DIY magic later on.
03. Make mixed tapes: while the concept of actually putting music to tape is a little retro now (substitute 'tape' with whatever media you please -USB stick, cd, mp3 player playlist etc) the idea remains, creating compilations of your favourite music every so often is a great way to capture associated memories. As we move through life living, learning, loving & embracing the changes that are taking us forward, our musical persuasion can vary quite significantly and the only proof you were ever once into Hanson is the CD that your mum managed to knick from your childhood collection. Create musical snapshots chronicling different parts of your journey and listen to them when you are feeling a little nostalgic & in need of a journey back to that seemingly faraway part of your mind!
04. Head to the department store & take a wander through the perfume & cosmetics counters: make mental notes (or post it notes!) about the memories or thoughts different scents invoke. The smell of a particular brand of cleanser you used as a teenager could remind you of friends you've long since seen. A perfume your mother would wear on special occasions could take you back to an important dinner or event with your family. The first perfume you ever bought for yourself might cause you to recall all those special firsts; a first date or a first big holiday (duty free = perfume heaven!). It is amazing the memories that can be summoned when you catch a waft of a certain scent!
What techniques do you use to enable & embrace your creative side?

Fabulous suggestions! I also love asking for help: Getting a friend to supply a color, or adjective, or food suggestion is like playing Mad Libs with your life, and can be fun and inspirational.

I often find inspiration from watching people especially if they are wandering along on their own. Sometimes it can be the look on their face, the clothes they are wearing or the way they are standing etc. Great article - very inspiring!! It makes you stop and think.
