Accessorising your outfits is a great way to show off some personality in your daily style. You do not need to be blessed with incredible creative skills to achieve unique and fun style ideas. Ribbons are an inexpensive way to dress up the pieces that already assist in your wardrobe. Here are a few ways you can use ribbons to bring a little more fabulous into your look.
Headband: Ribbons do not have to be resigned to being tied cutely around your pigtails, why not wind a length of ribbon around you head in the same way a traditional headband would sit. If you're feeling a little bold & outlandish, try tying it off in a bow atop your crown. Otherwise, tuck the ends underneath you hair (where your hair meets your neck) & secure with a knot or some hair pins. Alternatively, channel Mischa Barton's hippie inspired look and tie the ribbon around your head and tie off, see image.
Pussy Bow: Very much on trend at the moment and for good reason, this is a hot look! Wrap the ribbon under the collar of your shirt & tie in a big bow at your neck. Simple to pull off and instantly updates any blouse in your wardrobe.
Belt or Sash: Break up monochromatic outfits with a splash of mid section colour! Tie a length of ribbon around the mid-section of your blouse and tie off. Alternatively, loop the ribbon through your trousers belt loops, tying off with a big bow, just off centre. This one is purely for looking fabulous rather than assisting with holdings ones trousers in place!
Wrist tie: Add a bit of flare to your look with by wrapping ribbon around your wrist to form a wrist band. Now you've got yourself a good-to-go non-clunky bracelet.
Tie: A feminine twist on the traditional men's tie. Simply tie your length of ribbon in the same way you would do a traditional tie. Tie wearing that does not lend itself to the emo-subculture yet will jazz up your outfit.
Laces: why not replace the laces of your favourite shoes or boots with a patterned satin ribbon. This works particularly well for achieving a feminine twist on converse flats and looks rather sassy with heeled ankle boots.
Where Can I Get Fabulous Ribbon?
When looking for ribbons to jazz up your outfits, remember not to limit yourself to ribbons you can purchase from fashion stores. Take a look at what is already in your closet, a lot of blouses & dresses come with a satin sash to cinch the piece around your mid section, consider how this sash can be used with other pieces in your wardrobe. Also be sure to hit up big craft stores where you will find a dazzling array of ribbons in all colours & styles. You’ll find that you can pick up fabulous ribbons by the metre, often at prices that are a total steal! Another great place to find ribbon is the craft section of your local newsagent or department store.

oh, when I was younger I would sew ribbon trim onto my jeans, braid in sections of my hair, tie off hoop earrings and yes so fun as a headband. :-)

ooh, these are great ideas! i love ribbon but i always have problems thinking of how to actually wear it.
PS. when i read maegan's comment ("i so love it in the boot") i immeadiately interpreted it in a dirty way and started giggling. am i the only one whose mind is in the gutter? - At 1 February 2010 at 20:00 , Lust of Wander said...
