Winter Style Essentials Every Girl Should Know About

| Subscribe Email Kate   bloglovin

When it's cold & wet out, this is where it's at in terms of wardrobe, ladies. The top four recommendations to stand up to winter & face the big chill fabulous fashion first...

Grey tracksuit pants (George from ASDA) - no branding across the arse, no cutesy flowers on the front, definitely no matching zip up hoody. Just plain light grey tracksuit pants for schlupping around the house in while doing the laundry, cleaning the bathroom & taking out the rubbish. £6, thats right, for the cost of a cocktail you can get yourself some comfy lounge pants, go on!

Knee high socks - perfect to pop on when the nights are cold & you still can't bring yourself to wear anything but your knickers to sleep in. Also perfect for wearing over a pair of tights when you want to rock out in a skirt but it's freezing out and your legs are crying out for a little coverage, knee socks are the answer. Available ... everywhere, try any high street chain store such as Primark, New Look or Top Shop. You'll also find tons of different styles of knee socks available at your local markets, often for quite a decent price (in London? Check out Camden for a huge range of knee & thigh highs).

Knit Dress with attached collar/cowl neck scarf - these are the perfect answer for it's cold & i'm lazy/in a mad dash type days. Over jeans, trousers, tights - it's just too easy. A heavy knit will keep you warm & the scarf collar means you chest & neck are out of the elements too & give you that snug i'm actually still wrapped in my doona sensation that we all so desire on chilly mornings. & they look super cute. Every girl should own a big 'ol chunky knit dress.

Riding Boots - these are what you should be wearing when you're actually sporting Ugg boots (which, while we're on it, are NOT outdoor shoes, ladies), not so pretty wedged flat boots, very inappropriate in the wet suede boots or tottering & slipping about like a mad women in heeled boots on a wet pavement. Sometimes the universe makes heels a not so viable option, this is particularly so come the colder months. Rain & heels do not gel well. So, in an effort to look chic while maintaining a very together upright position, lets take a look at riding boots. They are the stylish way to do flat boots. They aren't suede so the wet weather won't see them ruined after one outing & the sole is hard core enough to deal with a kick about. They can be worn casual or formal, under trousers for work or teamed with a pretty dress for an evening out. It's all about HOW you work it - so give ugly shoes the flick this winter & invest in riding style boots.

Whats the item you can't live without during the colder months?

I love knee socks too! I can't live without a giant scarf that I wrap around my neck a billion times. I also love my fuzzy slippers when I'm at home because the hardwood is sooo cold.

I agree with Katy, I love my big scarf that doubles as a hood, and fuzzy slippers. Tile and broken heaters do not match B.C + winter. And those gray sweats are definitely essential!

this might sound like an obvious one, but having a stylish goes-with-everything warm winter coat is essential (especially in london/chicago/colorado where I usually find myself). of course, i've taken this to some sort of extreme fetish level and i now have many such coats.

I so agree about the grey tracksuit. I have a pair that is 3 years old and I wear them non stop during the colder months.

My other essential for winter is my fluffy bathrobe, perfect to cuddle during those cold night :)
